Golf Course Information
Description
Turquoise Valley is Arizona's oldest continuously operating golf course, founded in 1908 and built in nearby Warren, Arizona. In 1936, as a WPA project, the clubhouse was moved to its present location and the development of the current site began. The "Warren District Country Club," as it was still known long after moving to Naco, began as a 9 hole course played twice from different tee boxes for a total of 18 holes. The "back nine," a true desert course, was officially opened in January of 1999 with the first TVGC Pro-Am. Designed by Richard Atkinson, it features a par 6, 747 yard 15th Hole, the longest in Arizona and 10th longest in the world, "The Rattler!" Much like our contrasting-yet-complementary nines, Turquoise Valley has been acclaimed both "user friendly" and "challenging." While our infamous 1st Hole has been called the Toughest in Cochise County (SV Herald), Turquoise Valley has also been named one of the Top Ten Beginner-Friendly Golf Courses in ALL of the United States (National Golf Course Owners Association of America). We've got the goods to satisfy "weekend hackers" and "low handicappers" alike.
Peter and Leslie Lawson took over the course in 1997 and have made many improvements, aside from adding the back nine. The clubhouse has been completely refurbished, the pro shop restocked, golf cart fleet upgraded to electric and the staff has been doubled to ensure every guest is well received.
At an elevation of 4,600 feet, our course is playable year round and offers a summer climate 10-15 degrees cooler summer than Tucson -and even cooler than that compared to Phoenix. This makes for an ideal spring and summer get-away for desert dwellers as well as comfort for our winter visitors. Many generations of Southern Arizona golfers have played this course and enjoy the peaceful setting of the lush desert valley, blue skies and surrounding mountains.
